Virginia Gelhar has been teaching at St. Joe’s since 1987 and now supports the Faith Formation program and the school as a reading specialist. Her education includes a Bachelor’s degree from St. Cloud State University, a Master’s degree in reading education from St. Thomas University, and a STEM certificate from St. Catherine’s University. She recently received Orton Gillingham training in the summer of 2019.
Miss Gelhar feels extremely blessed to be a part of the second graders’ special sacramental journey. She states her greatest joy in teaching is guiding her students as they receive God’s graces in the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. “The child-like faith and joy the second graders have in receiving the Eucharist are truly inspiring.”, she says.
Miss Gelhar is involved in two book clubs, and her love of reading influenced her to develop the summer reading program at St Joe’s. She loves sports, and enjoys being St. Joe’s “#1 fan”, following her former students as they pursue their joy and passion in sports and the arts. Miss Gelhar considers St. Joe’s a second family, and loves being a part of this amazing community. Ms. Gelhar is recognized as a teacher who not only loves her kids, but they love her “to the moon and back”.
