Duck Cup Presentation

Dear SJS Families:

On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, St. Joseph Catholic School will be hosting a guest speaker, Kristen, whose presentation will focus on mental health and provide a message of hope. All 5-8 grade students will attend her presentation with the opportunity for a question and answer session at the end. Attached you will find a flyer providing more information on our speaker. After experiencing significant trauma as a young child Kristen shares the path she took to replace negative coping skills with positive ones. Kristen, being a young person in recovery proves it’s never too late or too early to get the help you need.

That evening we will host an opportunity for parents to listen to Kristen’s story and learn more about mental health in children. This is open to all families K-8. We will start the evening with a meal at 6:00 PM and the presentation will start at approximately 6:30 PM. We will have childcare available with an RSVP. If you plan to join us for the meal or will need childcare, please complete the Google Form above. Please note the meal is only for the adults attending.

This guest speaker is made possible by the Duck Cup Memorial Fund. The Duck Cup is a non-profit community group that was started by New Prague High School Alumni following the suicide of one of their classmates. Their goal is to raise awareness regarding mental health education and prevention. To learn more about the Duck Cup Memorial Fund, please watch this video.

We ask that you talk with your child/ren about the upcoming presentation and let them know about the resources that are available to them at school if they are struggling with stress, concerns with mental health, thoughts of self-harm, or concerns about someone else. The resources available at St. Joseph include:

Jane Brill, School Social Worker, jbrill@istjosephwaconia.org or 952-442-4500 ext 218

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions specific to this event.

Sincerely,

Bruce Richards
